In this post I have collected for you the most common mistakes nail technicians do while working with polygel.
Polygel liquid
Applying too much liquid (or alcohol) on the brush is the most common mistake nail technicians do. It’s easier to spread the material with a wet brush. But it could cause product leaking and some problems with coverage because you work with diluted products. Try to use less liquid and pick it only when it’s necessary.
Thick product layer near nail folds
Sometimes nail technicians apply too much product near nail folds trying to align the nail plate. It can happen near the cuticle area as well. Too much product can cause product lifting. So make sure the layers of the product are thin enough.
Too close to the skin
It’s important to not apply the product to the skin or too close to it because it can cause product lifting. So make sure you apply the product only on the nail plate.
We could apply gel polish near the cuticle but we shouldn’t do it with sculpting products!
The gap between skin and product should be about 3 mm (or a bit more for beginners).
Color and thickness
For example, if you do French manicure and apply the thick pigmented white product in one layer it can be complicated to cure it completely.
So there are two solutions:
1. apply the product with 2-3 layers
2. make the first layer with a clear product and then apply white one.
Pinching
Some nail technicians say they can see “net” when they pinch the nail. This means they pinch the nail too late or the layer is too thick.
There are 5-20 seconds for fixing it in the lamp before you should pinch the nail. Take different time gaps to understand what time works for you.
If the layer of the product is too thick, you may apply it with two layers and pinch every layer.
Not enough power in the lamp
Not every lamp can cure polygel. The age of the lamp also could influence its power.
To cure polygel you need 36 Watt lamps. The Sun lamps have a price-quality ratio.
Apex
Some nail technicians want to make extended nails look like natural ones so they make the product layer really thin. It can cause cracks and chips.
It’s only the free edge that should be thin. Apex should be thick or the nail would be broken.
Nail polish remover
Some nail technicians use ordinary nail polish remover instead of special polygel liquid.
Nail polish removers contain oils to soften the skin. Oils will make connections between the product and the nail weaker. So use a special polygel liquid.
